Catching a smart house mouse?

Okay, so, there’s a mouse in my house and possibly mice but there’s only one I really know of and I’ve put mouse traps for it because I can not take it, I literally can not. Its stressing me out to a point I’ve had dreams about mice a few nights. And it’s completely unusual for me to act that way because I love animals, but I can hear it running around when it is quiet and I’m studying and that smart little critter will not take the bait. I have 7 dogs outside could they scare the mouse away if I let them in? I can’t possibly get a cat with all these dogs. I’ve put cheese, cheese with bread, peanut butter, peanut butter and bread, peanut butter on tortilla and I can’t get that little mouse! I do not mean to offend anyone by trying to get rid of the mouse, I like to have a nice, clean house and rodents are just not really welcomed unless I want to keep them as a pet. Anyhow, what else could I use to catch this mouse? I’m not interested in those glue traps because I couldn’t let it suffer and die slowly… as much as I want the mouse gone, I think it at least deserves to have a fast death.

I had a mouse problem a few months ago and a guy at the hardware store told me to use a piece of Payday candy bar. I know my brother in law used to tie a piece of string to the catch and hold down bar and spread peanut butter on the string and that worked. It worked for me except for this one particular mouse. So I got a Payday candy bar, pulled off part of the insides (not the peanuts) it gets pliable. The mouse trap I had was one of the fancier ones that had a plastic catch plate that was yellow with holes that looked like a piece of cheese. Peanut butter had not worked for me, but i worked the candy into the holes, and had also put some string through the holes and within 10 minutes of setting the trap down, I had caught a mouse.
