What is a good gift for a very smart 2yo that gets bored quickly?

November 21st, 2013

I am having a hard time trying to find something for my 2yo for Christmas. He is a very smart, curious, busy boy. He knows his letters and letter sounds and can read about 60 words. He LOVES to learn but I just don’t know what to get him to keep him busy. When he is bored he gets into trouble. We love to play but he also gets tired of that. Any ideas?

I personally feel that a 2 year old is too young for a tablet. He should be playing and exploring, not sitting in front of a computer (because that is what a tablet is) – I am not anti-technology, but it shouldn’t be such a big part of their lives at this point.

What is he into? Cars and truck? Trains? Art? Pretend play costumes? Playdough?

Just a warning, kids at that age really won’t just sit and play with a toy for hours on end. They will get bored within 20-30 mins.

Our son is 3.

We have a variety of toys. He favorite for the last 2 years have been all his trains and train tracks. We have built up quite a collection. We brought him a train table last Christmas. He has played with it DAILY.

Another good gift was our family membership to the children’s museum. We go their pretty often.

Activities that we do often
—paint with water colors onto coloring book pages (dollar tree coloring book pages torn out and taped to a piece of cardboard – no fancy/hard to store easel needed)

—play with playdough

—blow bubbles

—play kitchen

—practice writing letters/tracking straight lines

—practice counting, identifying numbers by sight, and tracing numbers

other winners in our house
— I Can Pound Activity Block and Hammer Set

—I Can Bead, Lace, Rip, Trace Multi-Activity Kit

—Activity block

(not so much now, but when he was 2 it was a favorite)

What do I need to set up a come-a-long winch?

November 21st, 2013

Hi, I’ve purchased a come-a-long winch and I’m trying to find out if there is anything else I need in order to set it up. I’ve started looking up videos on how to set it up, and I haven’t found one that shows WHAT I need in order to use it. Some videos show them using Tree Savers and D Ring Shackles, but I only see them using those for electric/gas winches. Do I need those tools or do I just wrap the winches chain around the tree or whatever I’m using?

So my question is: Do I need anything else when using a come-a-long winch?
Also, fyi, I DO have a recovery strap, and if I need to have something extra, can I use that to wrap around the tree? This is the Winch I purchased

It’s for a vehicle. Like if it gets stuck in mud etc. That’s why it’s under Cars.

You paid too much. http://www.harborfreight.com/8000-lb-cable-winch-puller-543.html

The snatch strap is what to get you out of the mud. The strap stretches and the force will be over 10,000 pounds. And you want to get a farm jack as well. I have used my come-along for ripping roots out of the ground, pull a wheel-less car onto a trailer, etc.. How you use depends on what you need to move and how you can anchor the other end.

What to wear for a course trainee-ship interview?

October 18th, 2013

I have an interview for a service technician trainee-ship, its IT related. Should I wear shirt and tie or just go casual in jeans and shirt?

For any job interview, shirt and tie is always a safe bet. Take some care to make sure the shirt is clean & ironed, and make sure your tie is done up correctly, the knot isn’t too big, and the tie comes down to your waist. Even though others may dress more casually, it gives you a good bearing and makes you appear smarter, more organised and more professional.

You can never dress too smart for a job interview.

Can I use a winch motor for an electric go kart?

October 18th, 2013

I want to build an electric go kart, but all the motors that are specifically for kart building are WAY too expensive. I have a 3000lb winch, and I was wondering if I could just use the motor from that instead of buying one. And how fast would you say a kart could go with that kind of motor (the frame is just some square aluminum tubing, nothing fancy)?

Yes you can use a winch motor and your top speed may be around 12 mph.

Catching a smart house mouse?

September 18th, 2013

Okay, so, there’s a mouse in my house and possibly mice but there’s only one I really know of and I’ve put mouse traps for it because I can not take it, I literally can not. Its stressing me out to a point I’ve had dreams about mice a few nights. And it’s completely unusual for me to act that way because I love animals, but I can hear it running around when it is quiet and I’m studying and that smart little critter will not take the bait. I have 7 dogs outside could they scare the mouse away if I let them in? I can’t possibly get a cat with all these dogs. I’ve put cheese, cheese with bread, peanut butter, peanut butter and bread, peanut butter on tortilla and I can’t get that little mouse! I do not mean to offend anyone by trying to get rid of the mouse, I like to have a nice, clean house and rodents are just not really welcomed unless I want to keep them as a pet. Anyhow, what else could I use to catch this mouse? I’m not interested in those glue traps because I couldn’t let it suffer and die slowly… as much as I want the mouse gone, I think it at least deserves to have a fast death.

I had a mouse problem a few months ago and a guy at the hardware store told me to use a piece of Payday candy bar. I know my brother in law used to tie a piece of string to the catch and hold down bar and spread peanut butter on the string and that worked. It worked for me except for this one particular mouse. So I got a Payday candy bar, pulled off part of the insides (not the peanuts) it gets pliable. The mouse trap I had was one of the fancier ones that had a plastic catch plate that was yellow with holes that looked like a piece of cheese. Peanut butter had not worked for me, but i worked the candy into the holes, and had also put some string through the holes and within 10 minutes of setting the trap down, I had caught a mouse.

need help on a bumper for a winch?

September 18th, 2013

I have a 1996 F250 an I want to get a winch for it but I cant decide which bumper to get id prefer one that covers the whole front of the truck and if it has KC light mounts that’d be cool too
the winch im getting is a Mile Marker Winch – SE9500 Electric Winch

any opinions/suggestions?

I usually build my own bumpers out of 3/16" plate and channel steel. That way I can make them look the way I want them to. If you can’t, or just don’t want to build your own, Warn and Smittybilt are 2 companies that make nice ones for most trucks on the road today.
